Nearly four decades of service at West Point
The Ninth Cavalry arrived in 1907. The Tenth Cavalry assumed the mission in 1931. Through 1946, Black cavalrymen supported equitation, horsemanship, mounted drill, demonstrations, logistics, athletics, and the daily functioning of the Military Academy.

The mounted mission ended in 1946. The remembrance did not. Veterans returned with families, descendants, historians, and interpreters—passing both memory and responsibility from one generation to the next.
